I was hoping that in HAE 2 the host would get to choose the difficulty and game mode setting.
While democracy is great and all I dont think it worked out very well in HAE 1. If u wanted to play weak some pro would join vote strong then go pvp and kill off ur empire *growls at squad* with his hero cause the setting was too low and he was bored. If u wanted to play GODs PLAY some one would always vote weak cause they were scared. (I tried hosting games with names liek HaE GODS PLAY, but someone always voted weak. To this day i've never played gods play)
If the host picked then people could know what to expect like they do when joining a dota game. (DOTA 6.25 -ar -sm -dm!)
Overall i think people would be happier. People who want weak can join the (HaE2 weak mode!) game and people who want a challenge can join the (HaE2 GODS PLAY!) game.

Gotta agree with you, but what if the host himself is a noob and doesnt understand the game himself?
Anyway i also think its annoying that the host has to stay since everyone discs if he leaves, but i guess there's not much to do about that.
Well imo its worth the try to give the host the ability to choose the difficulty, as long as he cant remove other players from the game.

If the host himself leaves the game normally creates a split. So you often can play without host. (connection to host lost)
If the host leaves with a connection the game normally continues if there is another one capable of hosting.
Ow and now on the part i think that voting is better since it averages out what people want. And if you really want to play a godsplay game normally everyone does listen beside the people that don't know crap about the game, they won't even have a small chance of survival anyway.

I understand the whole averaging out idea but doesnt that leave everyone unhappy?
A lot of the games I see will end up on Strong setting. The good people are bored and the noobs get slaughtered. Everyone ends up complaining.
Wouldn't it be better if people could know what the setting is before they join ?
A noob host would mess things up. The same thing happens in DotA sometimes. But most of the time the host knows what they are doing.

Then nobody can host or it results in a game split.

You could give the host an option, maybe to let others vote or to vote himself, kinda like the older enfos maps. BTW Squad, it somehow lowercased my name, think you could mod that? = Anyhow if you ever need me and I'm not on WCIII squad, you can try my AIM if you have it Disembow1. You know I have plenty of suggestions for things, from o so long ago.

Yea I know, and by lowercased I mean the name shows as disembow, not Disembow on here. Anyhow I'd first need to see what you've put in to be able to make suggestions from there, as I've seen lots of maps that have given me some nifty ideas (if they could be worked into here since some were highly specific)

I definately have to agree, host making the difficulty choice is prob a good idea. No host should have 100% kick power, should always be a vote. Yesterday got kicked out of a line tower wars game because I was kicking the host's keister, and he knew I was going to win, so he booted me and my teammate.
