killar you should help me make this AoS ive been planning for... since i started playing war3 on bnet and saw custom maps . its a 4-way AoS thats 3v3v3v3(using uncontrollable units owned by the first player of each team that have some kind of AI of their own for the 'creep' spawns), and i have had a lot of ideas for heroes and such. The big selling point on this would be the 4 teams as well as a unique casting system. The races involved(like sentinel/scourge of DotA) are rocks(golems), orcs, naga and elves. All of that so far is really pretty basic and simple. where this map becomes hard is the Terrain and Spells. Terrain would work on several levels-- bridges going over valleys would allow a ranged caster hero to rain spells on the enemy and such. Pathing caused problems in my initial attempts. Spells all cost 0 mana, but have varying recharge rates and cast times(melee heroes would have low cast time, high cooldown. spellcasters would have the opposite). All heroes would then be int so that damage/level is controlled seperately from hp and armor. Most heroes(at least half) would have some sort of spell/attack that does damage based on mana somehow. This is in order to make getting more damage have a certain drawback. Example of the mana usage concept: Someone takes a hero like the ranger from hae1 and just gets lots of int(you chose what stats to level up, but this is only a slight change) for good damage. Another player gets a hero who has feedback and chooses to max their agility. Because hero 2 attacks fast and drains mana for extra damage, they will most likely be more powerful than the direct-damage hero. Sorry to go on so long about that in what is probably the wrong thread, but it has been a while since i touched that and it all just came rushing back to me.

yo,boss, sry, but i cant seem to access the ftp web. to dl the HaE maps (14/11/06) i have been trying for quite some time... btw,i noticed something while i was playing HaE 2: its like this, cause i usually cant play for a long time,me and my pals,we play on LAN,and we save the game to continue later on. But,i noticed, once we load the game...when i click on the skills menu(the really nice&cool 1 xO) my warcraft3 program gets a error mes. and terminates, meaning we cant continue from a save game,is it built in this way to avoid save/load games? or is it something that maybe u have missed? pls,if its posible, fix it,cause i cant play till my hero/empire reaches a high lvl,and cant kill the hero in the time i have 2 play a game.THX

Load/Save thing isnt a bug its just impossible. The map uses the gamecache ( a local database stored in your computers memmory). If you play over b.net or a lan game this data is lost after you quit the game. There is no way around it, the map uses a way to read your mouseclicks which cant work without using this way.
Simple answer, loading/saving can't work unless your doing a single player game. (Think about campaigns saving your hero, this doesnt work online)

oh,well...thx for informing me but its kinda strange...cause i can still play a loaded game but as soon as i click on the skills menu,i receive the error, meaning,i can still play the loaded game as long as i dont click the skills menu.so does that mean the gamecache is only used in the 'skills menu'?
and also this applies for HaE 2 only,i noticed that i can play a loaded game using HaE 1 map without getting the error.so could it be that the skills menu is the only thing that causes the error?
i'm really sry,if i'm err....'poking 2 deep into things'
cause once i tried HaE 2,i find it much better than HaE 1,and it really saddens me that can i continue(from a save/load game)on HaE 1,and not HaE 2
Thx,for all the help and great map works!!
----------------edited----------------------------------------------------------- OMG i'm so dumb...i just understand wat lord squad was explaining about the skills menu and memory thingy...
But,that explains why only the skill menu is affected....cause it uses the memory thingy... so does that mean if(most unlikely though) : u change the skills menu back to the normal tabs on the bottom right instead of the nice visuals --->if u do that, then the save/load prob. wont happen anymore?

oh yeah...1more thing sry... i tried to play HaE 2 in single player....but it seems the save/load problem also appears in single player mode (the same thing with the skills menu) -- just informing u
trying to help make the map a better place X)

im not sure if this explains things any better(or if its exactly right...) but what i understand is that the menu, not the heroes, that hae2 uses requires some memory space that is cleared upon exiting the game/map. if you try to load a saved game, it will search for that partition in your memory but since it was cleared the game will crash because the location has dissapeared. This is caused simply by the menu that interacts with your mouse, not by anything else. Unless the menu was changed to respond to keys instead of the mouse it is probably not fixable. And who wants to use the keys anyway?
