No I mean losing it and the winner gets it and since they are cheap you should get like 3 or 4 lives from it

why not like this
every starts on a basic rank like soldier then, every time u win a pvp battle u go rank up, and the loser goes rank down. when u got the lowest rank (like only 5 ranks, 1 is lowest, 5 is highest) u start losing lives when u get defeated by a creep, itll skip this system and you will instantly lose one of ur lives
every hero starts with 5 lives standard btw

naw u just start on 3 u win a battle ur on 4, another one and ur on 5 u lose, ull be on 2, lose again and ur on 1. then u start losing lives

sounds interesting, the idea of 'stealing' lives would work too, but it cannot be more than a 1-1 ratio, because then people would abuse it, example:
Person 1 vs Person 2, #1 wins, #1 gains 2 lives and #2 loses 1 (#1 now has 7 lives, #2 at 4) The rematch, but #2 wins, so the numbers are flipped and they both now have 6 lives each.
And now that I think about it, that rank system for PvP kills would not work very well, because chances are that if you lose once and your rank goes down, you will probably lose again. Over a period of time and battles the player with the least skill would be out of lives, and the player with the most would be unbeatable in PvP(or if he does die to it, it would mean nothing).
This could also be abused to avoid death from normal enemies(creeps) as well--- just have your ally hit you for the killing blow and you exchange rank instead of anyone losing a life. If one person is getting too low, then they kill others to bring themself back up.
A suggestion for a new way the 'rank' thing could work...
-no 'limit' on the number of ranks there are -Each person starts at rank 0 -Actual rank has no effect on gameplay, but once you obtain a new rank, you recieve a permanent bonus -Rank is gained based on killing any player-owned units. -These would be the same numbers as experience and just have that number transferred to a hero-type unit whose level is your current rank.(this would also make writing in the bonuses easier maybe...) -Bonuses may be something like... --Each rank gained is a free attribute point, increasing to 2 points at rank 5-10, 3 at 11-15, 4 at16-20... --Each 5'th rank, starting at one, gives a free life (1, 6, 11, 16) --Every X ranks, an amount of silver(I think thats the resource that helps heroes...) is added. I would be more specific, but i dont know 'the price of money' for that just yet.
All of this, however, should be after the game is already playable.

Or you can just choose not to fight another hero at all and just play the damn game like most people would, I would be figuring it's just a very miniscule feature and not actually depeending on if you win the game or not. Very short, someone thinks they can kill you, you say bring it on, you win, Your rank goes up and you look better, he's like omg you u beat meh, you keep playing the game. The End
It's not like the game is going to be based around this feature, it's just a small cool implement.

maybe some sort of duel ability would help otherwise things just wouldnt be fair if u wanna slay everyone in-game u simply cant because ull only get rank up so its a duel ability for ranking (in this case ranks cant get lost like in the other example i gave (rank 5 defeats rank 2 which gets 1 but 5 cant get higher so one will be lost). itll be like the one on 2 cant get lower or u can get higher than 5 (10-15 max?) but you cant lose lives either) now in the other one you can and will lose lives eventually when ur on lowest rank of pvp we can also bring the rank from the last idea up to 10-15 (maybe more) though it shouldnt work on creeps tho but i think we're getting somehwere with these ideas more lives on pvp is nice to have anyway
