Maybe be able to upgrade units to the next tier if its available, it would make sense I totaly agree with that, my units get useless too quickly for them to be worth what they cost

im not sure what they mean... but i think its something like..
Red researches Grain Production. Red and Blue are allied. Blue's farms also produce more.
essentially, you want to make it so that you only have to research 1/2 as much, so 2 allies can tag-team upgrades and make everything faster.
my opinion is that this would become very imbalanced, since you could have 100% of your research going to unit tech, while your ally upgrades your workers and farms. I dont think this should happen.
--That was replying to the 'Let Empires trade research' comment.
Upgrading units to the next tier would mean that as Empire one upgrades from Stone age to Copper age, his Stone Thrower units will all upgrade to Spear throwers. Although this would be helpful, it would mean that you will have 2 things that would be abusable/pointless
-People could just get 40 clubman before they upgrade at all and THEN do the upgrades, spending about 10% of what they would otherwise have to. -What use would the ability to build weak units be? i often find myself building the weak assassins because they are cheap but still invisible to use as scouts.
Also; at the 'splits' in technology, what happens? After the first upgrade for barracks, you can build swordsmen, catapults, archers, horsemen, priests, assassins, horse archers...
While this would be cool to see, i dont think it would be reasonably applied

Ok, this is very confusing but I understand it all, so now I gotta take the next hour to type it all out. Trading Technology: say 1 empire on a team upgrades their wood tech 3 times, first time cost them 250 gold, 2nd 500, and 3rd cost them 750 gold. That is a total of 1000 gold, and his Allie wants to get his wood cutting up 3 levels too, he can Trade more gold then what it cost to get the tech, depending on what his Allie sets his trade price too, his Allie may need to pay 2x, 3x, or 4x what he paid in research. so his Allie pays 2000, 3000, or 4000 gold to get his wood cutting up to his allies level instantly. Upgrading Existing Units: Yes, when a person advances from on age to the next, he can upgrade his existing units. This is unbalance so I say in order to upgrade his units he must pay 50% (or 25% on easier skill) of what that unit would cost to build. they Must upgrade in according to ages, so they cant advance 3 times and just upgrade their units once, they must upgrade them 3 times to get them to the current age.

lol omfg this sounds really silly why dont we just stick to the normal options for now? just looks like twice as much triggerwork as there is in the game this very moment and i dont think squad feels like doing this since he still aint done with the quests ;D

I meant to have a button on the units to upgrade them when yo uget a new level of that type of units research that would cost some gold but not as much as creating a new unit, because those units get useless fast and constant retiring and reproduction is stupid. Trade technology would be an option, like hey, I haev grain and you have pop, lets trade, and then both would get the effects.
