As some of you already know, Blizzard recently released a patch that raised the legal maximum size for multiplayer maps from 4MB to 8MB. This has probably opened up whole new worlds of possibilities, as we can now store twice the content in a map that we could before.

this also means it takes longer to upload the map to the players who join the game. i suggest you still keep the map as small as possible if you want it to get published quickly

yeah, although you may now have tons of imported content now, size is what matters most. who would wait in line to dl an 8 mb map when its full house? it was hard enough to make people stay for a 4 mb download. although, some bot servers allow players to download much faster than a normal host would. i have downloaded a 3 mb map in 10 seconds from one of the bots, as well as everyone else in the game taking less than 20 seconds, which is faster than most people are able to download a 1 mb map off of a normal host. from a normal host it usually takes at least a minute on average per person to download a map of that size. so i guess that an 8 mb map would be reasonable to a bot hoster but too much of a hastle to dl otherwise. i prefer to keep my maps under 2 mb which can be easily achieved by using models with in-game textures.
