i dont know how i missed this topic before, but here is my contribution:
3 empires sounds good, but i think if you can get 6 people a 4emp-2hero build would be best, cuz a hero cant be in 2 spots at once.
Anyway, empires should be either defense or resource profile. no reason to be anything else, it wont keep u alive. Heroes need to be builder or freelancer, hired guys(general) are not scaled to difficulty.
As for Hero type(ranger/monk...) The best choice is to get the heroes who do the most damage in the least time. Trying to out-live these enemies is pointless, u need to kill fast to stay on top. This means everyone should be a monk with sword or a ranger with bow. Warriors and traders with sword are almost acceptable.
Heres the reason why int fails: Mana shield gives a ridiculous amount of hp, but is reduced by raw damage. This means that if i hit a ranger with 50% damage reduction armor (500 armor i think) with 100 damage he loses 50 hp. If i hate a necro with that same 100 damage but he has shield up, he loses 100 damage worth of his mana.
This does not seem like much at first, but at higher levels heroes get up to 96% reduction. That means that a mage takes 25 times as much damage as that other hero, which very rapidly reduces the player's mana, which is also his source of damage. Its fine when enemies are fairly weak, but on gods play that is not acceptable.

my point is she is actually only OP at the very start, after about lvl 100 her mana shield actually becomes a burden. (actually for wizards its ok because of the regen thingy but not everyone uses it)

wizard is good if you have an army with you... that way you can give potent magic support and they can hold the mobs in check. Mercs can actually become very powerful especially to a high-level hero.

If you do ever get around making a new version try to make the nerco better becuease at the start he is very good but when end game comes around he is so bad

actually no, necro has skeletons following him around all the time so he doesn't need an army, and he has an uber skill that cuts something's HP by a percentile based amount, rather than integer. Necro can be great if you use him right.
